Happy (Late) Thanksgivings, everyone! I can't believe it's already been a year since I was in America, having dinner with family and friends. 2022 has felt both fast and slow for me, with days feeling stretched out and condensed, if that makes sense. The days are getting colder, the leaves are falling down, and my kerosene heater is working overtime to heat up my tiny apartment. But enough about me; here are November's Sendai shenanigans:
Our team has a new team member! Say hello to Virmz!
There is honestly so much to tell about this fellow, which could take up an entire blog on his own, but in brief, he's well known in the YWAM circle as a teacher, administrator, consultant, event coordinator, and more! He's a frequent traveler, going out months at a time to serve and teach at YWAM bases all around the world. He used to be stationed in YWAM Cape Town, but has felt the call to make Sendai his home base! He'll still be traveling around wherever he's needed, but he'll be officially a YWAM Sendai staff member, and will be networking for us! We're so honored to have him as apart of our little family!
Our kitchen car is finally up and running! We've named it "Kokoro Kitchen" (Heart Kitchen), and are serving up tasty Taiwanese food every Saturday at Nishigaoka Mall, which is just up the hill from Ayashi! The Lord has been good to us, giving us favor from both the city and the mall owners, allowing us to run our little business for the public. Here are some pics of our little car in action:
The menu consist of pork belly, noodles, soup, and dan bing, which is kind of like a Mexican quesadilla that's egg-based, instead of flour or corn. All delicious! Janet is a trooper, cooking up all these faithfully every Saturday, but we hope to each take a turn in the car and serve up some treats from our respective countries in the near future. Please pray for opportunities to meet and befriend many Japanese through this ministry.
Speaking of meeting people, guess who's gonna be Santa again this year?! None other than yours truly! Santa Soren has come to town!
Considering the last few years people have volunteered me to be their Santa at their church events, I decided to invest into a suit of my own and go "ho ho ho" wherever I'm needed! In fact, I plan on dressing as Ol' Saint Nick every Saturday for our Kokoro Kitchen car this month! On top of that, one local church and Operation Blessing Japan has already asked me to patriciate in their children's Christmas events as well! Please pray for me to be a beacon who points to the true reason for the season. That Christmas is not some western holiday with a big guy in a red suit handing out presents, but that it's a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, savior of all mankind.
December is gonna be crazy busy! Japanese school will be finishing up, Christmas and charity events are being organized and planned, and our kitchen car is gonna be in the middle of it all! While it's wonderful to see all these good things happen, the team and I are gonna have our schedules filled up quickly! I will try to post an update after Christmas and before New Years. This month is a big deal for many churches and missionaries to share the Gospel to many Japanese people, since Christmas is a curiosity and an amusement in Japan, so please pray for us as we serve! Thank you all so much for your prayers and support, and have a most Happy Holidays!
1 Chronicles 16:34
"Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!"
