July Jubilations

Hi, gang! It's that time again for monthly updates and absurdities from yours truly! Last month, someone celebrated his 32nd trip around the sun! For this monotonous journey, we feasted upon Dominos pizza sans corn, and watched Star Wars: Episode 4 A New Hope... The original theatrical version! No CGI or Greedos shooting first on my watch! Kai kept asking "why did the ojiisan (old man) have to die?" Aww... It's wonderful to see a child's first experience with such a legendary classic. I hope to show the rest of the trilogy to him and the others someday. And yes: Janet made the cake I'm holding from scratch!

But the partying wasn't over just yet, for a week from my birthday, a little person had his 5th birthday as well! Yes, Kai has turned half a decade old, and since that usually means his hand-eye coordination is improving, I got him a red ball! He was quite thrilled to say the least! And yes: Janet baked him that cake too. Quite the talented person!

As for ministry updates, last Saturday, one of the local churches here in Sendai, Praise Community Church, hosted a concert that our team helped set up! There was dancing, ukulele playing (Janet was apart of it!), African singing, and gospel songs!

It was encouraging seeing the Japanese attendees singing along, dancing, and enjoying themselves, even during the COVID pandemic. Gives one hope for some resemblances of normality to return eventually, Lord willing.

In the meantime, I'm currently working on a testimonial video about my first trip to Japan. I hope to have it out sometime in August or sooner, depending how fast things move along. Can't wait to show it to you all!

Lastly: vaccines are being administered here in Japan! I got my official vaccine tickets in the mail a few weeks ago, so I'll be good to get vaccinated! However, trying to reserve a date to receive it is not so simple. Reservation spaces and time is extremely limited, and considering there's only one clinic in the entire prefecture that has the vaccine, spots fill up faster than trying to buy a new Nintendo system at launch. Does anyone remember the Nintendo Wii? Yeah...

Just this morning, I tried to pick a day, but the website had to load for ten minutes, and by the time I was able to pick a date, spots were vanishing faster than I could click on them. Even times that were open were only so for seconds. So I would finally click on a time after refreshing the page at least five times, the text asks to confirm my age and reservation. By the time I click on both, a message appears saying that the spot has already been taken...

Needless to say, I didn't get a spot today. Now I'll have to wait two weeks for the next open time to reserve a day to get vaccinated. Fun.

Still, it's encouraging to see that things are slowly getting better. I can't wait to visit America someday, and I miss you all everyday! Can't wait to talk about my adventures in person! Thank you all for your continued support and have a most wonderful day!
